Ingredients

  • 500g Betagro Fully Cooked Chicken Karaage, prepared according to package direction
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) dark soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) Chinese cooking wine
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) rice wine vinegar
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) chicken stock or water
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) water
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, minced
  • 4 to 6 dried chilies, optional
  • Cooked rice, for serving
  • Sesame seeds, optional

Preparation

  1. Prepare the karaage according to package directions and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, Chinese cooking wine, rice wine vinegar, chicken stock, sugar, sesame oil, cornstarch, and water until smooth.
  3. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add vegetable oil, garlic, ginger, and dried chilies if using. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the sauce and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring, until thickened and glossy.
  5. Add the prepared karaage and green onions. Toss gently until evenly coated.
  6. Serve over rice and garnish with sesame seeds if desired.
